Citrus is an amazing fruit for providing vitamin C and bioflavonoids – nutrients which help vitamin C to be a superstar in our body – and helping to get rid of excess mucus in the nasal passages and intestines. Mucus can block our ability to absorb nutrients efficiently. These smoothies are good for providing hydration to the cells and electolytes especially after a sweaty workout, run or a day at the beach (well, we can all dream!).
Citrus Punch
1 frozen banana
3 leaves kale, stems removed
1 lime, peeled
2 oranges, peeled
1/2 lemon, peeled
Place all ingredients into blender and puree until smooth. Enjoy this super delicious, energizing smoothie.
Electrolyte Energy Booster
2 ribs celery
2 cups pineapple
1 cup spinach
1 lime, peeled
1 cup coconut milk or water
Place all ingredients into blender and puree until smooth. Pineapple helps to reduce inflammation, coconut milk nourishes skin and hair, lime helps to fight off infection. Together this is a beachy smoothie.
Mango Cilantro
1 cup fresh or frozen mango
2 cups green leaf lettuce
1 lime, peeled
1/3 bunch cilantro
1 Tbsp hemp or chia seeds
1 cup water or coconut milk
Place all ingredients into blender and puree until smooth. Here is another beachy smoothie – this one reminds me of something Thai. Mango is rich in enzymes to aid digestion as well as rich in vitamin A and C.
Pink Basil Orange
1 rib celery
1/3 English cucumber
1/2 cup frozen strawberries
1 orange, peeled
5 leaves basil
1 cup water
Place all ingredients into blender and puree until smooth. Basil is antibacterial because of the volatile oils it contains – which also gives it that wonderful scent.
Morning Glory
1 frozen banana
1 cup frozen strawberries
1 orange
1 Tbsp each ground flaxseed and pumpkin seed
1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract
3-5 ice cubes
1 cup water
Place all ingredients into blender and puree until smooth. My daughter states that “this smoothie tastes like bubblegum smells”. It is a truly delicious and refreshing smoothie.
