How to cook Quinoa

March 07, 2013

Quinoa comes in different colours, white is the most common and easy to find, but red and black quinoa are often available at healthfood and specialty stores. They all have very similar nutritional value, but changing up the colour can be nice for different recipes. Quinoa is very easy and quick to cook.

Rinse 1 cup of quinoa with cold water to remove the saponin coat. Without rinsing quinoa it can taste bitter.

Bring 2 cups water or broth or stock to a boil. Add quinoa and reduce heat to simmer uncovered for 15 minutes. Then turn off the heat, cover the pot and leave on hot element until water is absorbed. Then use in your favourite recipe.
